Thousands of books have passed through my hands over the years. Back in the day, my books were physical things—dog-eared paperbacks, hardcovers with the dust covers ripped. Today, they consist of electrons, whisked down from the 'Net for a brief time to my tablet, and then, when I'm done, whisked away again like crumbs from a tablecloth.
I like books too. When I moved into my new place, I went through my entire collection and pared it down (went from a big house to a cottage!). I don't regret it either. My favorites are now lining my walls, part nostalgia and part decor. I love it.
What's a good sci-fi series you'd recommend? I just started the Honor Harrington series and am loving it so far.
Good question! I'm a little behind on my SF reading, especially with regards to series. (The unpredicability of availability of titles! Short story: When I first started reading "Lord of the Rings," it was a few years before my local bookstore had the middle of the three books. Imagine reading "Fellowship of the ring" and then moving right into "Return of the King," without reading "The Two Towers"!) Lately, though, I've enjoyed N.K. Jemisin's "Broken Earth" series. For older works: the Hyperion books by Dan Simmons and Isaac Asimov's Foundation series. I'm hoping to find Gene Wolfe's "The Book of the Long Sun"...but am having trouble getting it. :( Oh, and any of the earlier Hunger Games books. Happy reading!
Thanks Michael After reviewing your suggestion I think I will opt of the Samsung Galaxy Tablet. Gosh they do range in price. I noted some YOUTUBE videos comparing Samsungs Top withe he new iPad Pro. Samsung got rave review in side by side comparison. Ok well thank again. I am not sure that the top of line is needed for reading book though. A less expensive model in Samsung might be in order for books. Your thoughts
So what kind of electronic tablet and size do you have? What size do you prefer? The older we get the larger the print needs to be. A lot of the electronic readers on the market are really small. Do you prefer Android, or Mac? I think those are the major competitors. With todays technology electronic books can be kept on a cloud rather than whisked away like crumbs on a tablecloth. One just has to pay for he cloud storage.
I have a Samsung Galaxy Tab A, which has a 10.1" screen on the diagonal. You can pinch-and-zoom to increase text size; also, most readers (I use Kindle and Libby) allow you to change font size, etc. I download my books to the tablet because I am often out of reach of wifi and/or cell coverage. I can't count on access to the cloud when I travel. I only use Android devices, as I don't believe in paying for Apple's monopoly on high prices.
I have the Kindle app on my tablet. I don't like the Kindle tablet because it uses an eviscerated version of Android and is missing many features. I prefer the fully-functional Android tablet.
